Mark Ferrell

Dr. Mark Ferrell DVM:

Dr. Mark Ferrell originally hails from Hobart, Oklahoma, having been born there and graduating from Hobart High School. While in Hobart, Dr. Ferrell participated in athletics, band, and in 4-H showing horses. After graduation, he enrolled at Oklahoma State University and earned his Bachelor of Science in Animal Science, a Masters Degree in Animal Science with emphasis in nutrition, and his Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine. After graduation, Dr. Ferrell spent a year in Cushing, Oklahoma working in a mixed practice.

After that year, he moved to McAlester where he has been since 1989. Dr. Ferrell started Town & Country Veterinary Clinic in 1998. Dr. Ferrell is licensed to practice veterinary medicine in Oklahoma and Colorado. Dr. Ferrell is a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association and the Oklahoma Veterinary Medical Association (OVMA) where he served as a district director, legislative committee chairman, vice-president and as OVMA president in 2012.  Dr. Ferrell also served OVMA as a managing board representative to Southwest Veterinary Symposium (SWVS) and was president of SWVS in 2017.

Dr. Ferrell has been married to his wife Brenda since 1998 and has a son Matthew who is currently enrolled in medical school and a daughter Katelyn who an undergraduate at Oklahoma State University When not working, Dr. Ferrell enjoys working around the farm, riding his Harley, attending OSU football games, boating, and 4-wheeling with his wife and children. At the present time, Dr. Ferrell and his clan have a Yorkie, a Miniature Australian Shepherd, 6 cats, 5 cows, 1 bull, and 2 horses.

Dr. Neil Ichord

Dr. Neil Ichord DVM:

Welcome our new veterinarian to the Town & Country team, Dr. Neil Ichord. Dr. Ichord is a hometown product of the McAlester area. He recently graduated in May 2024 from the illustrious Oklahoma State University College of Veterinary Medicine and has been working with us at Town & Country Veterinary Clinic since late July. Dr. Ichord attended school initially at McAlester Public School where his late mother taught, but after her passing he transferred to Hartshorne Public Schools in the first grade. He ultimately graduated from high school at Hartshorne Public Schools. Dr. Ichord went on to Seminole State College on the Presidential Leadership Scholarship for 2 years and obtained his Associate Degree in Biological Sciences. He then transferred to Oklahoma State University and spent the next two years in Stillwater where he finished his bachelor’s degree in Animal Science Biotechnology.

Dr. Ichord’s parents were both local educators. His late mother, Robin (Woody) Ichord was an elementary teacher for McAlester Public Schools before her passing of cancer in 2002. His father, Mark Ichord was the industrial arts teacher at McAlester public schools for 5 years and the High School principal and later superintendent at Hartshorne public Schools for 35 years before his retirement. Dr. Ichord’s sister, Marla is also an Oklahoma State graduate and is currently a medical laboratory scientist at Oklahoma Cancer Specialists and research institute in Tulsa.

Dr. Ichord is a mixed animal practitioner so his desire is to treat both large and small animals and everything in between. Dr. Ichord personally owns two golden retrievers, Sage and Kuzco and an english pointer named Pete. He is a cattle rancher with a background in showing livestock through 4-H and FFA throughout his time going to school at Hartshorne. He spends his available downtime hunting, fishing, and spending time in the outdoors whenever he can.
